This website is a bilingual site that has features geared toward teachers, English language learners and their families. This site has links to resources for teachers and families regarding policies, lesson plans, parent involvement as well as many other things. There are book recommendations for kids as well as educators that are culturally and linguistically responsive. The focus of this website is to support the needs of English language learners and provides the resources to do so. This website is very beneficial for educators. For a teacher who is new to ELD it has many resources that will help them get familiar with the struggles ELLs face along with lessons they can use in their classrooms. It also has a list of ELL related terms that teachers should be aware of. Resources for teaching vocabulary are also available. As Feldman and Kinsella discuss there is often a lack of adequate vocabulary instruction for ELLs (2005). This site addresses the need for vocabulary instruction and provides resources for teachers to incorporate it in their classroom. This site is also great for students. There are book lists and videos for students. Students from diverse backgrounds can find literature that relates to them. As a teacher I would use this site to find ELD lessons and supplementary resources for my class. It would help me meet the needs of my ELL students. It is also a great site for keeping up to date on what is happening with legislation that concerns ELLs. It is very important to know what is happening that may affect our students. Teaching Tolerance This website is a collections of articles and resources that highlight various aspects of teaching equality ad tolerance. The site has a magazine that address different issues of diversity that students face. The site also provides classroom resources for teachers to use to enhance their lessons and awareness of students' diverse needs. I chose this site as a resource because it provides a means to get connected with many different aspects of our students' lives. It is important to connect with our students by being aware of what they face. Advocating for ELLs is vitally important to supporting your students (Wright, 2010). This site helps teacher be better advocates for students by providing them with the information necessary to understand students' situations.
As a teacher I would use this website to learn how to make my class more open-minded and culturally responsive. It is so important to stay up to date with current issues, and this site allows you to stay aware of what is happening. It has many digital resources to promote professional development. It provides new presentations that I could utilize in my classroom. This is a great resource to check regularly to find new ways of connecting with people digitally. Wright, W. E. (2010). Language Magazine This website is a magazine that publishes pieces about English language learners and multicultural issues. Some of the tabs on this site are calendar, literacy/ESL, links and resources. The calendar has dates for various professional development conferences that teacher can register for. The literacy/ESL tab has article that directly relate to ESL. This would be a great resource for teachers who have ELL students. There are many helpful sites under the links tab that can provide additional information for teachers. The resources tab has books, online resources and other information for teacher use.
As a teacher I would subscribe to the online magazine. It would be very accessible to have this information in an online format. The site also has a section that has news related to language, and multicultural events. This would be a great resource to stay updated on current events. Garcia and Flores discuss the diversity among U.S. students, and stress the importance of meeting these students’ needs (2014).
